Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia.
At Silverwood Care, we understand that caring for people with dementia requires specialised knowledge and skills. Through our support of the Dementia Friends programme, we are committed to raising awareness and improving understanding of dementia amongst our staff. By doing so, we can provide high-quality person-centered care that is tailored to the unique needs of each client.
In addition to training our staff, we also work closely with our service users and their families to develop individualised care plans that take into account their specific needs and preferences. This includes creating a calm and familiar environment, ensuring that clients are engaged in meaningful activities, and using techniques that can help manage challenging behaviours associated with dementia. By working collaboratively with our clients and their families, we can provide care that is truly person-centered and tailored to their unique needs.
One way we help our clients is by staff attending Dementia Friends Information Sessions. These Information Sessions cover a range of topics, including the signs and symptoms of dementia, communication strategies, and how to create a safe and supportive environment for people with dementia. By equipping our staff with this knowledge, we can ensure that they have the skills and understanding needed to provide compassionate and effective care.
Another way we help our clients is by providing information and support to their families. We understand that caring for a loved one with dementia can be challenging and overwhelming, and we are committed to providing practical advice and emotional support to families as they navigate this difficult journey. This includes offering guidance on managing behaviours, accessing resources and support services, and coping with the emotional impact of dementia.
