All care support workers receive accredited training to ensure they meet our and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.

In-House Mandatory Training

Moving and Handling

Staff are taught about relevant legislation that applies to moving and handling, aswell as, how to perform correct manoeuvres and assess the level of risk.

First Aid / Basic Life Support

Our face-to-face training course covers both the practical and theory-based elements of First Aid and Basic Life Support. Our staff will learn how to perform chest compression and rescue breathing (CPR), how to operate an automated external defibrillator safely and how to place an unconscious breathing victim in the recovery position.

Dementia Awareness

With an estimate of around 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia and a prediction of over 1 million by 2030, awareness is vital to the role of a care support worker.

Our e-learning covers a wide range of courses for individuals at different levels of their career within the care sector. We believe by equipping our staff with the fundamental knowledge and skills through use of a British standard and skills for care endorsed provider shows our commitment to ensuring our workforce delivers high-quality care and support.

Our training programs ensure that our caregivers are equipped with the latest best practices and techniques, allowing them to deliver compassionate and competent care to all our service users. We provide career progression opportunities, such as Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ diplomas and the care certificate. We believe this is essential for encouraging staff development and retention. By offering these qualifications, we aim to empower our care support workers to advance their careers, acquire specialised knowledge, and gain recognition for their skills in the care and social sector.

Other Courses Include:

Care Certificate

The care certificate is agreed set of 15 standards which ensure all support workers have the same fundamental skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high-quality care and support. At Silverwood Care we encourage all staff new to care to complete the care certificate alongside their mandatory training.

Moving and Handling

Moving and Handling plays a crucial role in supporting people and includes activities like hoisting and lifting, vacuuming, transporting laundry, or handling boxes. This e-learning provides care support workers with an understanding of the key concepts of manual handling, allowing staff to Identify various items of equipment and what they are used for, understanding support workers role and the roles of others in assisting and moving and raising awareness of the relevant legislation.

First Aid

First aid skills e-learning allows support workers to understand their role, know the contents of a first aid kit, be able to call emergency services and understand the essentials of providing first aid in the event of an emergency. This course will allow our care support workers to identify and respond to an emergency quickly keeping service user's safe.

Infection Control

Maintaining infection prevention and control is essential for the welfare of individuals requiring care and support, and its significance is heightened especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Our e-learning will ensure you have the knowledge required to keep you and your service users safe from harm.

Equality and Diversity

At Silverwood Care we promote a workforce culture by providing training on the principles of equality and diversity. Training emphasises on developing inclusivity, respect, and understanding amongst people from different backgrounds. This ensure all care support workers understand that all service user's are equal and thus must be treated with with dignity and respect.

Safe Administration of Medication

Safe Administration of Medication training provides essential knowledge and skills to ensure accurate and secure medication practices, minimising risks and upholding patient well-being. Our medication training compromises of two parts. Part A provides knowledge and understanding on how to support and assist those who take their medication and Part B which provides knowledge around medication administration. We believe by completing these e-learning support workers will have the confidence to carry out their roles safely and effectively inline with best practice and guidance.

Mental Capacity Act / DoLS

Mental Capacity Act/DoLS training offers care support workers knowledge about people, their rights and ensuring they understand the care and support needed to be given to those unable to make choices themselves. Capacity or the lack of is a major area in the health and social care sector and thus this training is crucial in developing support workers knowledge and understanding so that they can provide support and protection appropriately. Anyone can lose capacity for a short period of time and knowing their rights in these situations is essential. This online training course will help improve your knowledge around this important area of social care and support work.

Food Hygiene

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) require care support workers who are involved in handling, storing, preparation or serving of food to be competent and safe in food hygiene and safety, ensuring they are meeting the requirement of the Food Safety Act. This e-learning allows those tasked with the role of being in contact with food to understand what is required of them to carry out their role safely.

Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children

All employees within the health and social care sector have a responsibility to keep the people they support safe from harm or abuse. Our training provides care staff with the knowledge to enable them to spot signs of abuse or neglect, and how to report any concerns in a safe way. Training also focusses on and explains some of the laws around safeguarding.

GDPR, Data protection and confidentiality

This e-learning provide support workers an insight in handling of information including UK GDPR and Data Protection. Handling information is of particular importance in health and social care as care support workers are required to handle sensitive information relating to service users and this training will guide them and provide knowledge on what is required of them to ensure their compliance.

NVQ 2 and above in Health and Social Care

As part of our commitment to care support workers we encourage their personal and professional development and offer care staff the opportunity pursue a fully funded Level 2 or 3 NVQ in care. We believe in career progression and advancement of our staff and see these qualifications a great way for care staff to develop and up-skills themselves.

Health and Safety

Knowledge around Health and Safety is important as it allows care support workers and service users to be protected from harm. Our e-learning allows support workers to understand their own responsibilities, and the responsibilities of others, relating to health and safety in the work setting. To understand Risk Assessments, the principles of moving and assisting safely and procedures for responding to accidents and sudden illness. The e-learning also covers medication, healthcare tasks and the essentials to managing stress.

Oliver McGowan

Oliver McGowan training focuses Oliver's McGowan's Story; a young man whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training on learning disabilities and autism. We believe this training will ensure care support workers are equipped with
with the right skills and knowledge to provide safe, compassionate, and informed care to autistic people and people with a learning disability.

Autism Awareness

As a registered CQC provider we are required to provide training on autism awareness. This e-learning ensures care support workers learn how to interact and appropriately support those with autism and people who have a learning disability.
